97 altima fuel pump replacement

i am replacing the fuel pump on my 97 altima. got right up to the pump itself ok but now is the problem. what is holding the pump in? does the tan plastic bracket come out or the pump come out of the plastic bracket or both? how do i get the pump out and replaced?

RE: 97 altima fuel pump replacement

hopefully you don't have a full tank of gas when you do this like I had to deal with. I have a 98 so I will assume it's the same. There are two tabs on the bottom facing the rear of the car. When you reach down pull these two tabs up and slide the whole assembly toward the front of the car. This will release it from the tracks it is on and then you can lift it out. However it may be easier to remove the sending unit first which is on the passenger side of the fuel pump and comes off with two clips on the top passenger side of the whole assembly. It is a sensitive item so use caution in pulling it out.

Hope this helps

Hi I have the same problem with getting the pump unit out, joined the forumtoad and found your quary within a couple of minutes. Hopefully I it is the same set up in my 1994 Nissan Bluebird SSS. Australian Model. Your description of the unit sounds the same

Thanks

Graham
