2007 Altima and upgrade audio

New to the forum, so if this has been covered, I apologize and please point me in the right direction.

Three weeks ago we hada tree that get blown overduring a storm, ittotaled the wife's 2003 Altima 3.5SE and we've been scrambling to get her another car.
We decided to go with a 2007 2.5 and found one that she likes, unfortunately in the excitement, we got a 6 speaker unit and not a 6 CD capable unit, also the wife would like a bit better sounding unit.
The 2003 had the Bose set up btw.

Checking with the dealer, a 6 CD unit is about a $1000 installed, and even he said we should go after market.
My question (finally) is, with the dash such as it is, do they make after market units that will look good and not require a lot of fabrication, also are there units we can use the steering wheel controls still?
Or is there a cheaper way to get upgrade Altima components with out going though the dealer?

Thanks for any help.

Al

RE: 2007 Altima and upgrade audio

After a bit of web wandering, it appears that Crutchfields has both the new faceplate that will be needed to install a new head unit, and if we go with a wired remote unit, it will work with the steering wheel controls, just needs the adaptor.

Any one used this set up (face plate or wired remote) ??

Al
