Hi, got an 83 720 pick up, Z-24 2.4 ltr engine w/dual coils. Can't figure out why it dogs out. Kinda cuts out when you go up a hill or try to accelerate quickly. It cruises fine though. Everything checkes out OK. Plugs are kinda black though. New fuel pump and filter, air filter, cap, rtr, plugs, wires. Timing and timing chain good, rebuilt carburator, etc.

Anyway, it has been suggested to me that maybe the coils are shot. Ummm, anybody know how to check them? I mean, usually a coil either works or it doesn't and they're both firing fine @idle. I dunno, I'm really lost here.

Anybody?



Update: I found the how to's on checking the coils and Elec. Ign. stuff. Maybe this weekend. Sure hope it pans out. I'll post the results.
