Default 1988 Sentra

Where is the EGR ( is that emission gas release ? ) control located ? What does it look like ?

EGR = Exhuast Gas Recirculation ...... there is a fairly big tube coming off the back of the motor and runs to a valve... that is the EGR Valve that is what you would call the "control " I guess.

what kind of nissan do you have? you would normally see a small pipe like the size of plumbing pipe threaded into your exhaust manifold and you can follow that pipe all the way to the EGR valve.
