i'm pretty handy under the hood, but i don't spend a lot of time there. is replacing the starter a one hour job or is it pretty involved. it looks like i may have to remove the oil filter and some other items if i approach from above. is it easier to approach from below.

Not sure on your pathfinder but I've always had better luck swapping starters from below. Might have to remove the exhaust pipe/header to get to it. NORMALLY, its about an hour job, notice I said NORMALLY. I have hadsome with rusted bolts,bydouble jointed, three elbowed freaks where they built the vehicle around the starter.
