Non starting Maxxima

Hello everyone, This is my first post and hope someone can help...My daughter just aquired a 95 Maxxima... It started to give her starting problems right away. It would turn over normal and then it would turn over really slow and even stop turning over, and then all of a sudden it would start turning over fast again and start. Well this last time it turned over a little slow and then just clicked. I removed the battery and charged it. Tests o.k... The car still just makes one click...Almost like the motor is frozen, but it's not...I think the starter is bad does this sound reasonable. To me when it would stop turning for a second and then start turning again, it was like the armature has a bad spot on it. Any ideas?

Does indeed sound like a bad starter. Usually, when a starter clicks like you describe, it's either a dead battery or a shot starter. Might be worth checking and cleaning the connections on both battery cables first. Battery to body ground (-) and battery (+) all the way to the starter. It's kind of a long shot but if a cables loose or fried, it might be the source of your problem. In other words, a bad (loose or fried) cable can act like a dead battery too.

Hope that helps,

Oh, how'd you test the battery? Took it somewhere and had it load tested I hope. A volt meter or test light won't really tell you anything about it's condition.:)

Thanks for the reply. I have a load tester that I checked the battery with. I will pull the starter off tomorrow and check it. Thanks again.

Finally had the chance to pull the starter off and have it tested. Sure enough it was bad. Put on a new one and the Maxima starts like new again. Thanks Starkey for confirming my suspicians.
