Oil smells like gas
I have a 2004 Nissan Titan. I was checking the oil yesterday and it smelled like gasoline. Is this normal?

RE: Oil smells like gas
oil shouldnt smell like gas but it may not be that abnormal depending on driveing conditions. the thing to look for is if your oil level is increasing. if you check it regularily and the oil lever is higher each time then you are definitely getting gasoline in the crankcase, not a real common thing with modern engines. id just keep a eye on it and see what happens.

your piston rings are more than likely bad from pushing it to the limit or long haul driving the new titan have ****ty pistons and rings to match stock to begin with .... or possibly it has sumthin ta do with the air fuel mixture.. maybe you pushin to much fule and the spark is deadening does it studder at all cause if it does then thats the problem...;)

RE: Oil smells like gas
It sounds like blow-by and theres not much you can do but rebuild (ring job). It could be bad spark that is forcing the blow by though so check the spark and see how hot it is. Has the engine overheated real bad ever? You can get blow by from warped pistons or even a pluged oil line not sending enough oil to one area and a ring warping or overwaerring. Even if the engine is in need of a rebuild, it is important to locate the cause of the problem so it can be dealt with after rebuild.
Good luck cause it dosn't sound good. |
