Transmission Clutch Noise
I have a 92 4x4 Pathfinder with about 120,000 miles on it and recently the transmission or clutch has started making a noise when engaging/disengaging the clutch. I was told by a shop that it was the throw out bearing. The transmission still pulls fine and does not slip at all. Actually just pulled a trailer over a seven hour trip with no problems other than the noise. The hydraulic clutch fluid level was a little low but I topped that off. Would it be anything to do with the hydraulic clutch stuff? Thanks.

RE: Transmission Clutch Noise
I agree that the noise is caused by a worn out throw out bearing. The throw out bearing has some sacrifical material stuck to a metel donut so that when the throw out bearing engages the clutch bearing surface there is no metal to metal contact. I bet what you are hearing is the metal to metal contact becaause the sacrifical material on the throw oiut bearing has been reduced to nil.
