brake lights always on....why

the brake lights in rear of car are always on even when brake is not depressed, replaced brake switch--lights stills on. even when the car is completly shut OFF the lights are on. whats the deal??

check where the brake padal meets the switch to be sure it is making contact. sometimes the tab that depresses the switch falls out.
