RE: Taking out the turbos

what do you mean take them out? if it takes ten hours, i woudl think that they are removing the entire engine. but even then, 10 hrs seems like alot....you could do an engine swap in ten hours!

i have never attempted to remove the turbos on a 300zx, but is there any chance that you have a picture of the engine bay?

going from underneth is definetly the way to go but you have to get up high in the air, and not on jack stands either.

RE: Taking out the turbos

The turbos on a Z32 can be removed with the engine in situ, according to the workshop manual. From personal experience and the experience of others on Zed forums, pulling the engine is a far easier and safer method. Also with it's age there are other things that will require attention whilst the engine is out like cooling water and vacuum hoses that are almost impossible to change whilst the engine is in the car. Also did you realise that a pair of Garret GT28R's are not much more to buy than to rebuild the turbos you already have! Only slight modifications to the exhaust flange or install 5 bolt dump pipes are required.

RE: Taking out the turbos

listen to 90ttz he knows what hes talking about, taking turbos and parts of the engine is the easy part but putting things back together propaly and the right way is the tricky part..
either do it proporly or your car is gonna be standing for much longer than 10 hrs..
