Default Altima 2002 crank sensor recall question

Hi,
I bought a used2002 Nissan Altima 2.5 SL 1.5 years back. The carhas53K miles on it now. Last month while I was driving the car, the car just stopped. The car servicing was overdue so I got the car serviced and told them about the problem. They kept the car for 2 days but the problem didn't act up so theycould not find anything wrong with the car. Ever since, the car has been stopping nearly everyday at random. I gave it to other mechanics but the problem didn't act up. Today while driving the car, it stopped again and the "Service engine soon" lit up. I took it to the Nissan service center and they said the problem was with the crank position sensor. I checked my car's history by calling Nissan headquarters and their records show that the recall for crank position sensor was performed 2.5 years back (I own the car for 1.5 years).

Is it usual for the crank position sensor to die in 2.5 years? If not, I think that the recall was never performed on the car.Is it possible to find that out?

Thanks

Default RE: Altima 2002 crank sensor recall question

It is common for the crank sensor in those cars to fail all the time.....as far as making sure it was done, if it is stated in the history then that is what the warranty company is going to go by unfortunatley ...the crank sensors run like $35 and I keep them in stock at all times. Let me know if you have any questions or need some parts.
