As a potential future owner of an Altima 3.5 se I have been doing quite a bit of research on the net about the 2007 vehicle.
One concern I have is that many folks with the CVT and the 3.5 engine seem to report dissapointing fuel consumption figures with this vehicle. Is this a common problem or more the fact that some folks have a very heavy right foot ?
I would appreciate any feed back that you have.

I have had my 3.5SL for a while now (more than 7000 miles) and I tend to get right around 21-22mpg with typical driving that includes a little highway, and a lot of in town/commuter driving. When just doing highway driving I can get close to 30mpg @ 80mph. And I have the CVT.

Thanks for the reply and the info. Your gas mileage is not a lot different than my present car that also has a 3.5 engine , but at present I get to run on 87 octane fuel.

What VQ do you have that doesn't take premium?

My present vq is a 2005 chrysler 300 ( not the hemi) and it will run on regular or premium.
I change my car every couple of years and the Chrysler has been a great car and would replace it like for like but my wife finds it a little big for her, hence possble looking at something just that little bit smaller.

I do have one question for you, did you find the change to the CVT an easy change to make or did it take a little time to get adjusted to ?

My apologies, when asked you about the VQ, I assumed you were currently driving a Nissan. That's why I was wondering why you were using regular gas. The VQ is Nissan's flagship engine, and it requires premium. You were saying that you have car with a similarly sized engine, that takes regular.

On to your question: The change to a CVT took about two times behind the wheel. It's not hard to drive or anything, but your body can feel a little out-of-whack the first couple of times you accelerate hard and get no shifting sensation.
