Service Engine Soon Light
 

Hey Guy's,

My SES light just came on and I used dadster's ECM self diagnostic.test. I believe it showed me two codes if this is possible. The codes are 0455 and 1448. Does anybody know what these codes are and where I could find them for future reference. Thx

Code 0455=
P0455 Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (gross leak)
Code 1448=
P1448 Vent Control Valve (purge valve)

Find the leak and fix it!
That may clear both issues as P1448 is related to the emission control module.
Check all hose & fittings on emission system ~

Look online ~ Google "OBDII Codes"[8D]

Thanks 4 the reply Qwantum. Is this something that can be checked by looking under the hood and possibly underneath. Finally, is this a serious enuff problem that could damage the engine if not taken care of immediately???

I cleared the SES light after getting the two codes this morning and it hasn't appeared again. Thanx again

Maybe you have resolved the problem? (not a serious problem but needs attention).
Code 0455 could be nothing more than a loose gasoline cap!
The cap is a component of the emission (vapor) system!
If you areshowing no codes now then it was either a temporary condition or
a blip in the sensor. (Or maybe you got gas and tightened the cap)?[8D]

ps: Under the hood there is a vacuum canister with several small diameter tubes connected.
This is where most Evap system leaks are found, either at the cannister or in the tubing.
Ask at your Lube Shop or almost any auto supply store to show you the location of the
Evap vac can. :eek: Drive Safe !

That's funny you mentioned the gasoline cap because I had the same issue this past March involving the cap. I replaced it and the SES light never came on again. Although I think it was a different code. When I purchased the cap from Nissan, the parts guy said it was common problem with the Altima's. I can't imagine having to change the gas cap twice yearly. Anyone else experiencing this occurence with an Altima or other Nissan vehicles?? Thanks again Q

Quick question. Will resetting the computer make the light go off. I just bought a 2003 Altima and they have replaced a crank sensor. A week later, it came on again for 3 days and went off. They said my computer needs to be reset so will this work?

Sorry for the delay in response. If the crank sensor is in fact the problem then resetting should work. I'm wondering why the dealership didn't reset it for you. I have yet to fix my problem, although I reset my comp and after about 3-4 days the SES light came back on. Try resetting it yourself and see what happens. Good Luck
