Serena Automatic Transmission problem
 

I own a 2003 Nissan Serena Limited edition QRV-R, which I bought second-hand middle of this year.

Last Saturday while driving along the SLEX on my way to Batangas (on Drive :"D", with overdrive "on"), after a short breakfast stop, I noticed that the transmission was not shifting automatically from low gear, even after stepping on the gas and travelling almost a kilometer already. I went to the side and turned off the engine. After some 2 minutes I started the engine again and tried to drive off, with the same results. Again I went to the side and turned off the engine. After another 2 minutes, I started again, and it finally worked well - or at least that was how it felt. Except that the transmission seemed to stay at 3rd gear, and does not shift to 4th gear even after some time driving. I abandoned my trip and just went back home.

Back home, the above condition persists till now. If I want to drive off with relative comfort, I will need to turn-off-and-turn-on a couple of times first. And when it works, the unit does not seem to shift to 4th gear at all.

Can someone please give me advise? My (favorite) "talyer" suggests a change of transmission - which I know will be expensive. I am a Quezon City resident. :confused:
