01 stereo problems

Hi, this is my first time posting here. I have an 01 Maxima which I love, but I am having problems with the radio buttons on the steering wheel and also the volume control button on the dash. They intermittently work, probably due to overuse:).. and they won't change stations or control the volume either, so I try to use the dial on the dash, but sometimes that doesn't work either. So, then I turn the whole thing off to reset it,then it usually works. I always have the stereo on, so this is starting to drive me nuts. Can Nissan fix this and is it an expensive job? I can't live without a radio in my car:)) It doesn't always do this, just occasionally and seems to be when it's colder. Thanks for any advice!

RE: 01 stereo problems

Go and first only a$k from your stealership ... I guess some car audio shop will sell/install u new and better usb-memcard equipped stereo at 1/4 price.

Typically this kind of problem is dust/dirt/oxidation accumulation inside 'buttons'. In some cases its possible to spray/flood special electronics cleaner inside these dials, this cleans out contacts. This fluid does NOT make any short circuit, however the moving dirt can also flow to worse point and ensure its never working again... I guess u have nothing to loose, the spray is 5$.

The dealership is going to be way overpriced.... our prices on all car stereo's are ridiculous......I would try what reiska said.... if that doesn't work, check out a radio shop.
