Clearing check engine light
i was wondering? i have a 99 Maxima and i just a code (check engine light came on) I know that most of the older fuel injected cars could clear the computer by pulling the neg. bat. for about half and hour, does this still work or will have i to get the code cleared by my mechanic?

RE: Clearing check engine light
Go to O'Reily or AutoZone and borrow their ODBII Reader. You would probably need to give them your credit card as the collateral. Refer to the manual, obtain the trouble code and clear the "Service Engine Soon" light when you deem appropriate. I reset my 1997 Maxima several time at O'Reily. I hope it helps.

RE: Clearing check engine light
well most of the times when you unplug the negative battery for resetting ecu, it works for minor ecu complications but if anything major like bad maf sensor, o2 sensor etc, it will not disappear by unplugging ecu....my best advice is go to schucks or autozone...but my 2 guess would be maf sensor or misfires..

RE: Clearing check engine light
i would also suggest getting it scanned and find out why its on.
