03 Low RPM Rattling
I have an 03 Pathfinder and I have recently noticed a rattling sound, almost like metal or exhaust. I have nailed it down to happening right at 1750 RPM in firs/second gear. If I feather the peddle during second gear I can get it to continuously occur, and soon as you accelerate its gone. I went under the car and check from headers back to muffler and nothing is loose to the touch. Also cant nail down exact location being front or back since I am always in the car when it happens. Could this be transmission issues? Has anyone experienced this type of rattling sound?

Not sure about the Pathfinder, but have heard of similar rattles coming from heat shields on top of catalytic converters. Sometimes they rust out on the mounting points and hit the top of the converter .

Your right on the money. I gave up looking because I just couldnt see anything. Brought it down to the shop and it was a heat shield that had busted from the mounting bracket, they just cut the shield off and now its good to go. Thanks.

it sounded like a broken/rusted heatshield to me which heatshield did they remove?
