Ping noise
If any one can help and direct me to either what this noise is or where it is coming from.. I hear a "ping" noise from the engine after i put the pathfinder into gear. The noise only occurs if it has been put in gear for the first time after being turned on, and after it has been in motion for about 10 - 15 feet.. Once this ping noise occurs i will not hear it again until i restart the pathfinder and put it in gear again for the first time adn drive 10-15 feet. this will happen in both reverse and drive.. PLEASE HELP!!!!
i ahve never heard a noise like this from a car in my entire life

RE: Ping noise
Hi -
My 2005 SE 4x4 does the same thing. It sounds more like a clunk than a ping - I hear it immediately after the truck shifts into second gear then it is gone. It will not come back until I put the truck in park then turn it off.
I need to take it to the dealer. Let me know if you take yours and they find something.

RE: Ping noise
the noise that you are describing is def diff from what i have. I have never heard a noise like this before. It is a "ping " ....almost like a tight spring being shot or the sound of a golf ball driver hitting a ball, and it echos or vibrates for a second, and it is coming from the front.
when you hear the clunk noise, is your trans changing quickly and jolting the car???
