strong gas smell
I have a Nissan Quest 1998. I turned the car key only far enough to apply power so I could lower the power window. As soon as I applied power I heard a hissing sound like gas escaping. I smelled gasoline, the smell was strong enough that I expected to see a puddle of gasoline inside the car. I removed the key and the power and aired out the car then I reapplied power by turning the key, again I smelled a lot of gasoline. I opened the hood and smelled gasoline in the engine compartment too. It was late at night and I have no idea where the fuel line is. I am trained as an electro-mechanical technician, not as a car mechanic. I was looking online for the routing of the fuel line and troubleshooting procedures for my Nissan Quest 1998 to no avail. What are the possible causes and how do I track it down?
My wife is hypersensitive to a lot of smells, she has smelled gasoline in the car for several months. I have not smelled anything remarkable until now but I rarely smell much of anything, ever.

RE: strong gas smell
well all of your fuel lines come up fromthe driver's side. the fuel filter is close to the bulkhead (firewall), plenum area. just grab a flashlight and have someone operate the key while you look around. take care though, leaking fuel can be a danger.
