2001 Sunroof makes loud noise /wont move
 

Howdy Folks:

Another issue arrose today ;

the sunroof on this 2001 Sentra 2.0 SE- will make a loud noise - as if not able to grab the movement nylon cable - have to help it along manually - like hit button - give it a shove - about 10 times to finally get it to close - as this car is in the desert - heat and dust are probably the culprits - looking to see if anyone has any experience with the sunroof mechanism etc...

Yeah i have the same problem with mine, only does it once in awhile (2000 SE by the way) i just disconnected the SR and havent used it

sure I could disconnect - but that would drive me nuts to have something and not be able to use

I think it must be something in the nylon cable - or the nylon drive gear- getting dirty / dusty in the tracks - harder to move , will strip the nylon cable or gear

i used to have same problem with my BMW635

perhaps someone who has worked thru this issue will visit and chime in

i think youre right about the cable/gear because mine personally worked perfectly fine during the winter and spring, as soon as summer came and all the pollen and dirt was in the air it started going out on me again.

that is usually how it goes - same with window regulator rails and also - I have to replace the ignition key assembly as well do to it being a previous smokers car - I pulled off the sterring column housing - and cigarette ash everywhere-

So I quess it will be off to the dealership to see about printouts for schematics on the sunroof mechanism and part no's for the nylon cable and gear - now - what to lube the rails with

I dont know if that helps, great site though with pretty much any factory nissan part you can think of without the stealingness of a dealership

Thanks, ill probably use whatever you find out to fix my stuff.... if i ever have any money to put towards fixing stuff lol

I have fixed sunroofs before - the late 70's early 80's when the cables were Cables - just messy and very labour intensive - I cant imagine it much different today 'cept all the nylon used in cables and such

I'll take fotos and post everything - dunno about you but drives me crazy to have a fresh air port and not be able to use it - and fall will be here soon enough - best time for sunroofs

have you tried lubricating some of the visible moving parts. try using wd-40.
