2022 Sentra driver's left foot rest
 

I find it mind boggling that the designers of the 2022 Sentra decided to simply put carpet over the driver's left foot rest. And they also designed the winter floor mats such that they don't cover it. As a result, springtime always leaves me with the dilemma of a salt encrusted foot rest and how to get it clean. Has anyone any good methods for getting all the salt out? And even more importantly, has anyone come up with any kind of gadget to cover this area that can be put in place in the fall to prevent the springtime dilemma?
