engine code... p1614 & p1448 .. anyone know what it could be???
Hi,
I just purchased this car 2 weeks ago and the engine came on already. this is 02 spec v. I have 2 codes, p1614 and p1448.
P1614 = SBDS Interactive Codes
P1448 = EVAP Canister Vent Control Valve (Open)
Does anyone know how to fix anyone of them??? I'm really worry about the P1614. The guy told me i have to replace my ecu.

I have an '02 Spec-V and my ECU went up also. It was throwing different codes though (throttle body/ throttle position sensor related). I'm not saying that your ECU is toast, but it is a certainly a posibility since mine went bad (for no reason at all) and I have heard from plenty others on these forums that had bad ones. I also have heard about the wiring harnesses being bad too. P1448 sounds like a bad gas cap, but what is P1614? I looked for it in the Factory Service Manual and didn't see it??? Did you mistype it or something?

My bad about that first code. I was looking in the wrong section. Did you get more than one key with your purchase? It sounds like you have one of the Spec-Vs that have a security system (chips in the keys that must be recognized before start-up). Is it starting and everthing? Also, did that dude with the code reader clear your codes for you (most code readers can)? And if so, did that get rid of your check engine light? Whoever sold the vehicle may have known that there was something wrong with it, cleared the codes, and then unloaded it onto you (some codes don't pop up right away - some problems take several trips to activate the CEL). If I was you I would start with the gas cap - cheap/easy fix.
