Default fuel filter bad - fuel pump OK?

Removed the fuel filter on my Sentra. Took it to NAPA. They said it was bad. Dirty fuel was coming out and after blowing air thru a hose into the filter could barely feel air.

My car wouldn't start. Will it start now?

How can I check if the fuel pump is bad? It's 200 bucks at NAPA don't want to ask at the dealer.

Could hear the pump after turning the key ON. Does that necessarily mean it's good?

Is there a simple way of checking?

There is a long fuel hose going into the pump and a short one. Which one should I attachto anotherhose that goes to a fuel container to see if pump runs?

Thanks.

since you can hear the pump turn on its probably fine if anything there could be a chance that the fuel pump sock might be clogged if the new fuel filter doesnt fix it. just make sure you have spark, fuel, no clooged intake and it should run lol. let us know what you find

I'll see if will start now. Removed the fuel pump cover and cleaned it up.

Is there a chance the pump strainer (filter) is clogged? I could hear the pump buzz.

The flow of the fuel on the filter is going upward instead of downward.

There's about 3 gallons of fuel in the tank. After removing the pump how do you handle all those vapors?
