Performance/gas mileage problem

Hi everyone,
I have a 98 Sentra GXE 1.6 with 110k on it, and I have the following problem:
The car has no power at all, the gas mileage is at 24.5mpg at best and the engine seems a bit rough at idle.
My brother, who runs a mechanic shop, took a quick look at it last night and suggested starting with the obvious (a tune-up). He suspects either the lower converter or the airflow-meter is bad, but he will have to take a closer look at it at the shop. My question is has anyone experienced this problem before, what could be the cause. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Steve

RE: Performance/gas mileage problem

i would have your brother check the maf out and also it sounds like you might have a vacumm leak thats causing it to run rough or possibly you fuel filter is getting clogged. your fuel filter is on the firewall by your master cylinder just remove the fuel pump fuse and take the filter off and see if you can blow through it if not that could be your problem.
