Problem fueling 2001 Xterra

I purchased a used 2001 Xterra with 100K miles. For about the last month, every time I try to fuel it up, the pump shuts off every few seconds. I have tried different gas stations, different pumps at the same station, different angles for the hose, but nothing seems to work. I am interested in finding out what might be causing this problem, how to fix it, and if there has been a recall related to this problem.

Thanks,
Todd

RE: Problem fueling 2001 Xterra

i have 2001 XTerra and, yes there was a recall for the shut-off valve on the fuel tank.
The problem was, it would't shut off fuel pump at the station. Check if yours went throught a recall.
Go to nearest Nissan dealeship, they might trace it for you.
Best luck.

RE: Problem fueling 2001 Xterra

You are the first person I have found who has experienced the same problem with the fuel tank. I contacted several dealerships and a number of independent mechanics, none of which had ever heard of this type of problem. This left me thinking that maybe there is some foreign object crammed into the fuel intake. Now I don't know what to think......
