The Z @ the track 2006
I sold off the Maxima last year. It was a fun "first drag car", but I want to go faster!
This is my 1971 JCR "Cal Z" it's running a bored/stroked straight 6 (2.8L). The head is a ported '71 aluminum job. It is carbed with triple Dellortos, on a Lynx alum. manifold like the early Porsches and Lotus' ran. I'm using a 3-into-2 header with minimal exhaust. The interior sports a roll bar and seats from a CRX. The trans was replaced with a'74 260-Z 4-speed just in time for the snow to fly in 2005. Fresh paint for the custom fiberglass body should be coming this spring (2006). 4/13/06 I took the car up to Martin 131 dragway for the first time this week. I eventually ran a 16.1 @ 81mph. I know breaking into the 15's is possible! 4/18/06 Ran a best of 15.5 last Saturday. Wow! what an improvement after just taking out the pass. seat, aircleaners and reducing rear tires to 25psi. Unfourtunately, @ 85mph the front was shaking so bad I thought the dash was going to break loose and fall into my lap... New front tires are on order for the coming saturday! 6/25/06 I just installed the one and only front airdam they make for my car... $300! But damn... it looks 100% better! 8/20/06 DAMN! all the rain created a puddle at the entrance to my drive way. As I was pulling the Datsun out onto the street, the airdam dipped into the puddle - actually a large pothole. The lip caught on the edge of the pavement and ripped the whole airdam - as well as the lower 1/4's of my fiberglass fenders - clear off! Needless to say, I'm pissed! 10/06/06 I had my first experience with fiberglass repair today. I attempted to repair the front fenders so I could hang my airdam again. The results were real ugly, but it seems to be holding! 10/08/06 Went to Martin/131 last night and all the work paid off! 14:97 @ 90 mph WOOT! |
