Default 280zx - HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My mate just bought a 1979 280ZX with a 2.8 fuel injected straight six. It was going fine until the battery went flat the other night and since then it's been playing up and draining batteries. My mate thought it might be the alternator so he got another one and tried that but now it worse. It won't seem to run smooth, very jerky and missing, and all the lights on his dash are staying on, fuel, brake, etc and a light comes up that says "check system" but he's not sure what to check. Any ideas would be great. TIA

so it started with the battery dying over and over? it sounds like an electrical issue...but wiring bugs can be a nightmare to find.

Sorry to hyjack, but o cant see a reason to have to post trouble shooting the same motor. I have a 280ZX motor in my nissan patrol, havent started it in a while and when i did today it has a miss that sounds like it has a dead plug. I checked the plugs and they are all fine and i am stumped[:@] Checked the leads, seem ok, points seem ok but when you drive it, it sounds like its only running on five cylinders, back firing when you back off and got about 60% accleration. PLEASE HELP?

if you have a miss fire in one cylinder, that plug would be very black since it isnt burning anything off...
