36 MPG with my Altima 3.5 SV
I switched to a lighter viscosity Oil for my 2013 , altima 3.5 after researching . I Pressured up my tires correctly and finally took my first long vacation . I had been getting about 31- 32 on Hwy , but did not know I had low Pressure in my tires . 25 PSI is not enough to maximize fuel economy , now I have 32 PSI now and see a great difference . The Lighter Oil also really made a difference , I only use full synthetic Oil in all my cars .
I never worry about silly things like a few dollars more for the oil , I simply want quality products since I am retired from Shell Oil and fully understand Synthesis of making Oil .
I put about 3500 on my vacation . In flat terrain Keeping the speed about 69 MPH or less and keeping the RPM Below 1750 as Much as I could I was getting Almost 37 MpG . I fill Brim to Brim and never cheat , the gas must be allowed to settle in the tank and over fill the top very slightly to make sure you do not cheat on your mileage . This may be wrong, but I want to make sure I get accurate readings . The weather was very cool and no issue of vapors escaping with a fire. I am an Engineer and fully understand light Hydrocarbons.
I found the fact of keeping the RPM lower and operating in the Efficiency Curve of the Engine and transmission and Mileage is Maximized . The engine simply is relaxed and not working hard . My Car was filled with luggage and two people with lots of junk for our trip . On level Terrain , I constantly got over 36 MPG , to me this is significant for a car of this performance and quality .
