i was just curious, with the common intake manifold gasket failure that happens on these vehicles, is is the intake manifold to cylinder head gasket that fails, or the intake manifold upper / lower gasket that goes out? i have the car disassembled enough to replace the intake to head gasket but didn't know if i had to split the upper lower joint to fix the problem. thanks.

 

If the headgasket has failed you would have been seeing lots of white smoke out of the tailpipe.... if the intake manifold gaskets are leaking, then all you have to do is replace those.

 

i wasn't talking about the head gasket, i meant the gasket between the intake manifold and the head, on the side of the head, not under it. the other gasket i was referring to is the one between the two parts of the intake manifold. thanks though.

 

Ah I mis-read sorry, we always replace both. The upper intake plenum gasket and the intake gasket to the head.

 

could that be a cause of an engine running really rough with a high idle?
