Is there a difference between a Nissan oil filter and let's say a Fran oil filter? Do I really need to use genuine Nissan oil filter?

 

Yes, there is huge difference, there were some independent tests done, and the Genuine Filters tested higher than most commerical filters, I would suggest you try to use OEM, if not try to use a WIX Gold or a Napa Gold if you feel the factory ones are too expensive, but for the cost vs premium filters, the OEM is the way to go.

 

You will hear more start up noise with an aftermarket filter than with an OEM filter.
