Default Engine Issue

I have a 1993 Maxima. It has about 200,000 miles, Timebelt has been changed at about 100,000. Last Year I went to give the car a tune up and somehow messed up the distrubutor when I went to replace the cap. I had the car towed to a garage and the replaced the distrubutor, plugs, wires. But the car Idles extremely rough as though its misfiring, then out of nowhere it purs like a kitten. This has been going on for a year. Some days its starts and runs fine the other it shakes and stalls. The garage at the time said they had no idea, and the computer hook ups couldnt pinpoint it. Since I had to pay by the hour I just took the car as it was. Again some days its like nothing is wrong and others it really seems like a misfire. When it does idle rough, it seems to calm down when I start driving. I love the car, its the best I have had but it may be time to call it a day, any help would be great.

New wires AND/OR distr cap can be worse than oldies. Its known that you get three new cracked caps in a row from spare shops: for some reason maxima 6cyl caps crack even by sittin on the shelf... Take cap out, bright light and magnifier: inspect in/outside for cracks/streaks - none accepted. New cap is 16-20$.

Wires: youll never get good wires - NGK may have workin set.

Plugs?

Maybe ground wire is bad/missing. That will intermittently deteroriate campos signal. Add new, 'any wire' will do; see http://www.cardomain.com/ride/748507/12 & pages 10 & 14
