1987 Terrano audible warning
I am based in New Zealand, and have a 1987 Nissan Terrano 2.7 NASP diesel, import from Japan.
All is good with this 4x4, but on long journeys we have noticed an occasional, really annoying "bing-ing" noise from behind the dashboard - seems like an audible warning for something. Noise is a single "bing" followed by about a second-and-halfs gap, then another...etc just loud enough to be heard over the music - although it doesn't seem to rely on the speakers (thought it might be a radio travel alert-type-thing?!)
We haven't noticed it on short ( think < 1hr) runs, only on the longer, and it seems to be related to speed somehow - the only way to make it stop seems to be to brake and reduce the cars speed to about 10km/h. Not a safe technique on the open road...
We don't know what it is - if it were a speed indicator then surely we would hear it the whole time...it seems to come on quite frequently once it has come on the first time, but we don't hear it at all until the car has been running for about an hour or so...
Cananyone shed any light on what this might be - every other warning comes in the form of a light on the dashboard, so we're kinda stumped on this one, especially as we don't have the handbook...
many thanks,
Dom

RE: 1987 Terrano audible warning
Additional Info:
Model is Terrano R3M
"Binging" seems to get slower as you slow down, and faster as you speed up - but is definitely electronic.
Heard again on relatively short journey today, although had just engine braked down mountain road for about 10 mins...
Any ideas guys?
Some sort of vital engine-related warning? Oil temp or something like it...? Most warnings come in the form of lights on the dashboard, know of any others...?

I have a '89 turbo terrano. Mine goes ding ding when I got above 117kmh. At the back of the display cluster there is a round (2" x 3/4") thingo that looks to be set up for audio. Snipping the 2 wires leading to it might do the trick.
