92 Pathfinder transmission problem
I own a 92 Nissan Pathfinder SE, auto, 4x4, 166,500 miles. I was driving along, when I accelerated to get through a traffic light, and the engine revved up, but I ended up coasting to a stop. I shifted it in every gear, and had nothing. There were no signs of transmission slipping, and the fluid is at a safe level, and doesn't smell burnt. The only problem I did have, is that when I would start it and try to put it in gear, the shifter was a little stubborn, but after 20 seconds or so I was able to move the shifter into gear. I took it to a transmission shop, and the guy looked at it, but couldn't find anything, saying that he would charge me $300 just to take it out and tell me what was wrong with it. I know trasmission repair is very costly, so I decided to wait to see what I could find out otherwise. The real bummer, is that I had just put insurance on it earlier that day, and haven't had the chance to really enjoy it. Any suggestions? Thanks!
