Default help w/ 94 pathy shocks

Hey everyone...new to the forum..not sure if there's been a post about shocks already and if there is, sorry for the duplicate. Anyway, I just recently got a 1994 pathfinder xe with 156k miles...it was given to me by my cousin who bought a new pathfinder.. After doing some work on the car (tune-up, new brakes etc), my next project was changing the shocks since driving it feels like you're on a water bed or something..However, this particular pathy came w/ a comfort ride which softens or stiffens the shocks with a push of a button..and after consulting w/ some guys at pepboys, they said that I would have to take it to the dealer and have them change the shocks because they are a special kind ($100+ a piece). I was wondering if I can just buy regular shocks w/ out the electronics and install them on my pathy? and If so, what should I do w/ the wiring? Thanks in advance for any help..
