Default 2000 Quest GLE HVAC button lights NOT the green indicator light

I am hoping one of you can help me out. I have been all over the internet and about a dozen forums and cannot find this answer. I can find tons of "how to replace the bulb" in the HVAC unit (auto climate control) however that is not my problem.

My problem is that the actual BUTTONS and the fan dial will not light up. The green lights telling me what button is selected ARE working.

Hopefully you can help me out. It is very annoying to have to guess which vent position they are in in the dark...
I have taken that hvac unit out so many times to look for some hidden tab connecting the face plate so that I can get to the inside that I can do it blindfolded. Is there any danger of screwing anything up if I take the faceplace circuit board off and expose the LCD for the auto climate display?

Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated!

So you have replaced the bulbs ? ......Make sure you don't have the dimmer turned down.

The main bulbs are fine. Unless there are tiny bulbs hiding inside the actual buttons.
