Default Exhaust Leak / Noise - 05 Sentra 1.8

My 05 Sentra has 118k miles and the 1.8L engine. The engine recently got much noisier and it sounds like there may be an exhaust leak. The exhaust noise is coming from the front of the car. It is not noticeable when the engine is idling, but when accelerating, the engine sounds much louder than it should be. I plan to get the car in the air this weekend and check for exhaust leaks.

Has anyone experienced this before? If so, where is the most likely place I should look for the exhaust leak?

Thanks...Rick

So I have the car on stands and removed upper and lower heat shields from the exhaust manifold. I see no evidence of an exhaust leak. I started the car and ran my hand over all areas where I thought there may be a leak, but found nothing. Again, the noise is most noticeable when accelerating and seems to originate from the front (passenger side) of the car.

Any ideas? Thanks...Rick

I'm starting to think the noise is not caused by an exhaust leak. The noise is a knocking or slapping sound come from the belts side of the engine and is only noticeable upon acceleration. At idle, the engine sounds perfect. Could it be the timing chain with only 118k miles?

Advice anyone? Thanks...Rick

hmm, how old is your car? I bet its a used one... maybe the engine being installed is not meant for it reason why the noise occur... what kind of engine you are using?

Check the exhaust manifold for leaks. It probably have a bad manifold gasket, or a crack in the manifold itself.
