Default Picture from space

Here is a picture taken from the Columbia on its last mission. It's a picture of the west coast of Europe, and the Azores where I live. If you look left of Portugal out in the Atlantic, you will see the islands. It is taken when the sun was going down in Europe, so the white dots are the lights of the cities in Europe. You can also see the Canary islands off the coast of Africa. Notice how the Sahara desert in Africa is so huge, and you can see it even at night because of all the sand.

I live on Terceira island which is part of the chain of islands known as the Azores. If you look at the picture, you will see the Azores to the left of Portugal out in the Atlantic ocean. I work for the department of defense, and we have a re-fueling station for the Air Force jets that fly from the states to mainland Europe.

Actually, I am not in the service. I am a Department of Defense Dependent's School teacher. I am the high school band director at Lajes High School. DoDDS schools are located throughout Europe and Asia. I have been stationed in Germany, Japan and now here. This is my 36th year of teaching, so I think I will call it quits after one more year. Getting old and tired.
