RE: 16.3
you should be running faster than that... do a tune up, you'd be surprised what youll get from a nice tune up

RE: 16.3
Strip out the a/c, get some high octane (104 or better), Get a AIT recalabered resistor, GET UNDER PULLEYS, If you have headers....wrap them, Gets some platnum wires and plugs, Get a hot coil, MSD if you can afford it, get high-flow fuel filter and air filter.........start with these or check them if you already have them. Sometimes it's just small stuff that makes a differance between spanking and sputering!
Good luck |

Well to combate slow lauch, you want the snapiest throtle posisble and that means: cool engine and incomming air, hotter spark, and free flowing fuel. Every thing I mention will help to facilitate that. And lightening up the crank and car in genral. And believe me, Changing to a free flow type filter like an exposed K&N will make a BIG differance even it you dont have turbo or the like!

Well some times I will take my seats out for a night (assanger and back seat) and even some panels and truck completely stripped just for some fun on the street.

1/10 sec at how many horse, that ratio will change depending on your horse power and especially torque. And that 1/10 sec. is gaind mostly in the launch. In tuners like mine (and yours) nothing is too small to over look. If at the rate you gave of 1/10 off per hundred pounds, sripping 200lb. is a decent gain. This combined with some torque gaining measures really makes a differance. Run a quarter mile with an extra person in the car and see just how much slower you go. Take that in reverse and thats how effective wieght loss is.

Unless you want a all out track car that has nothing more than a seat and a steering wheel. |

Well my wife won't let me take everything out like I want....If it was me I would drive a totally gutted car everyday but I'm a dumb@ss gear head so what do I now. I have stripped the trunk lining and spare perminently, carbon fiber trunk lid and hood, said good bye to a/c, no air box, I run aluminum wheels, and shaved alot of unneeded crap like hood latch (pins are lighter), hood prop, sun visors, lisence plate holder, ect. Also have lightend up the exaust alot from what it was stock. This is all the everyday wieght reductions, on race day/night, the passy and back seat go, the subs and amp go (big reduction for me!) door panles and some times even the hood in the fall. Once I even took the seat brakets out but that was a mistake! I am a big guy so I try to compensate on the car. With me in the car I can weigh 175 less then bone stock. If I had more money and a more understanding wife I think I could reduce about another 100-150lb. from the car. You are right that it dosn't give you great time improvement but all the little stuff does add up, esspecialy if going against a close match up. Also I don't have boost or NOS so everything helps. And as always, the driver is the number one factor. Hell, I could beat a z350 if the driver is a moron. My friend had a 14 sec s-10 but only if his uncle drove it. He couldn't get lower than 16.5, thats a huge differance! Experiace and ability are a drivers best mods so to say.

Doing all that work on a 15+ second machine is nuts. A dog is a dog is a dog.

RE: 16.3
If you are going to worry about weight in a street driven car, worry about unsprung weight. Taking 10lbs off of your wheels is like taking 100lbs out of your car.

RE: 16.3
+1 lighter wheels
