dull plastic chrome

dull plastic chrome
My '04 Nissan Maxima has chromed plastic accent strips along both sides of the roof above the doors and extending along the outer edges of the front and rear windshields. Although originally bright and shiny, these strips have become very dull (in fact, gray in color). The dealer says it is a question of maintenance and said his detailer could shine them up for $600. I pointed out that the front grille is chromed plasticand has retained its shiny luster. It appears that the accent strips are poor quality. He just shrugged and said it's not a dealer/warranty problem. Has anyoneexperienced thisand had Nissan acknowledge and correct the problem? Any suggestions regarding an easy fix?

RE: dull plastic chrome
ive replaced a set on a 05 maxima cause of hail damage but it probably be cheaper to buy a new set of chrome strips then to have there detail buff them out for $600. if i were you try to get them buffed elswhere cause $600 is way to steep our dealer only charges $150 for a complete in and out detail including buff. go ahead and try to get the buffed out at a local auto detail before buying a new set.
