I hope someone here will be able to give me a quick diagnosis.

This is a 97 Sentra.

If the headlights are on, the left brake light doesn't work. The tail lights, right brake, center brake, and turn signal lights all work all of the time, and if the headlights are off everything works.

Suggestions?

Bad ground maybe? With a bad ground, the running light might work but then there won't be enough "ground" left to make the brake light come on too. So, I guess you could clean the ground and see if that helps. Someplace to start anyway. Oh, I supose you might try replacing the bulb first. You never know.
