timing belt broke ??
Wife was on her way home from work and as she was driving on the interstate the car just died. I got there and checked to see if it was getting fuel...it was. So now I suspect that the timing belt broke. It was raining and almost dark so I didnt have much time to lookat it after the tow truck dropped it off at home.
My question is--- if the belt is broke, what are the chances of the valves being damaged? And is there another possible/more likely reason that the engine stopped running?
Its a 99 Altima with the 4 cylinder.
THANKS FOR ANY HELP !!!!

RE: timing belt broke ??
your car does not have a timing belt it is a chain.you can remove the oil filler cap on the valve cover you can look in and see the cams have someone try to start car if the cams are turning the chain is not broken.check for fire at the spark plugs if you are not getting any fire it might be the distributor
