Look in the drive's side floor board and see if there are small crumbles of plastic or rubber. If so, it is likely that the "rub plug" that the cruise control cut out switch contacts on the brake pedal needs replacing. When those rub plugs fall apart they leave the hole in the brake pedal that they vacated and the switch's contact shaft remains extended even without the brakes applied. The computer thinks the brakes are applied and prevents the cruise control from working. You will need to replace the "rub plug". Pick up several at your dealer or order them on line. Since the other switch(es) found near the brake pedal and clutch pedal are the same setup their rub plugs should be replaced too because they will likely be failing soon also. There are two on the brake pedal support shaft, one for the cruise switch and the other for the brake light switch. When the brake light switch rub plug fails the brake lights stay on all the time even when the car is off killing your battery. If you have a manual trans there is also one on the clutch pedal and I believe it stops the cruise from working too when the rub plug fails. Here is a photo of a rub plug in a holder I made from a piece of plastic cut from an microwave dinner tray. The holder in not necessary but I found it made the install a lot easier. These rub plugs come in several colors over the years but they all look about the same. https://www.flickr.com/photos/922251...57594347547443
