I have a 1995 Altima GXE/automatic transmission. I went out to leave for work on Saturday. I put the car in reverse, to back up and turn my car around. When I stepped on the gas to back up, the engine rpm revved up to close to 2000 rpm. I almost chit! I could barely control the car. I pulled up the emergency brake and slammed the car into neutral. I was so glad that I was driving and not my 81 yr old mother who sometimes borrows my ride.
Does anyone have an idea what would cause this, or has experienced this before. Scary chit. The car runs normally in all forward gears. This is happening only when i put the car in reverse. I appreciate you help in advance.

 

maybe it occurs because you put it in reverse...

 

barley touched the gas...car would have been doing 60 mph backward...not joking...it was not fun.
