Default Possible Tranny Issue ?

During this mornings commute I had my cruise set about 75 just like I do every morning and all of the sudden I heard a "clunk" the car bucked a little and the engine light came on, I pulled into the slow lane and de-activated the cruise and got off at the next exit. I came to a complete stop off the exit, I got out and looked around the car for fluid leaks but didn't find anything. I proceeded to get back on the interstate and continue the car seemed to shift fine as I accelerated. The car is an 06 Altima 2.5 it has 55,000 miles on it and has an automatic transmission. I now have a check engine light on ( I sure it won't clear on its own now that the car seems to be running fine). Just wanted to know if these transmissions have a history of limited life.
