MAF or VAF Circuit Malfunction on 1997 Nissan Maxima
Today my check engine light came on and when I went to have it checked the issue that came up was MAF or VAF Circuit Malfunction, Can somebody please tell me what this means?? What causes it? Approx cost for having it fixed? I am freaking out since this car has been my first and only car and we will be celebrating our 9 year anniversary together on 10/14/06 and I have had virtually no problems...

Highly probable the cause is depicted here: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/748507/14
...or the sensor itself is bad. Reman 150$ +swap ??

your MAF (mass air flow sensor) gets a reading from the amount of air coming into the engine and sends a reading to the computer to send the right amount of fuel to burn. if you don't correct the problem your car will be sputtering everywhere and soon afterwards it'll be turning off as soon as you start it. it'll cost about 250-400 depending on where you get it. but if you go to a junkyard it'll be about 80 bucks or so. if it were me i'd correct the problem quick before more problems are created.
