Default 95 pathfinder tranny truble

Ok, just got the vehicle I have allways wanted,95 pathfinder SE 4wd, love it. Engine, body great but the transmission makes a grinding noise in 2,3,5 under acceleration. I changed the gear oil "which was low" and noticed chunks on the magnetic drain plug, still grinds. Anyone else had this problum? Am aware transmission repair will be pricy. Any idea on whats a fair price to look for, or outher possible things to check first? Thanks in advance for any help/suggestins.

I also have a 1995 SE pathfinder. It has about 150,000 miles on it and if I'm driving on the highway, the tach flutteres really fast if I go between 70-83. Anything lower and it is fine, anything higher than around 83 and it is fine. If I let the tach keep fluttering, eventually, the A/T oil temp warning light comes on and if i keep driving with that on, the transmission will slip in and out of gear. I've noticed it is leaking transmission fluid under it when parked and sometimes it looks and smells burnt. I have a warranty on it until March 10th. Does anyone know what could be wrong with it?

Is it manual? Sounds like your clutch is going. Often when your clutch wears down your engine will rev and not accelerate. You will also begin to slip gears.
