Default Catalytic Converters or something else...

I have a 2001 Nissan PF LE 2WD. My check engine light has been on for a while. I finally had the Nissan dealer take a look at it. They are telling meI need to replace both Catalytic converters at a cost of $2400!!

Is there a way to confirm thatthis really is theissue before I spend this kind of money?

If I choose not to replace the Catalytic converters what's the worse that will happen?

I have 104k miles on my PF. My wife has 14 year Maximum and we have never had this issue.

Thanks,
Broke

Default RE: Catalytic Converters or something else...

hey I have an 01 pathfinder too with the same problem buy mine broke around 225,000 miles and it has no effect on the car in fact if u turn the check engion light off then it doesn't come on for a month or so but you will not pass inspection with the light on so I suggest that you just leave it and turn off the light right before you get your can inspected also I was quoted closer to $1500 to fix
Good luck
