Default Shifting issues?

Hi everyone [8D] I have an '02 Pathfinder that as of yesterday decided it was too good for shifting. Out of park, that is. It takes me an increasingly long time to get the stupid thing out of park. The button on the shifter is not depressing, allowing me to shift. There is some play in the shifter when it is IN park, and occasionally pushing it as far forward as I can allows me to shift. Tonight, however, I got stuck in a Wal-Mart parking lot for better than 30 minutes before I could get it out of park. Has anyone else had this problem, or know of a solution? Please help!

Default RE: Shifting issues?

The trans wont come out of Park unless the brake is depressed, Assuming you know this.. its most likely the switch for the brake. You will hear a click when you push on the brake that sound unlocks the shifter. If your not hearing that click then the switch is likely bad or has a bad contact or something of the sort.
